Lehrer Family Scholarship
In April of 2005, Stephen B. and Barbara K. Lehrer established the Lehrer Family Scholarship for Health and Wellness Promotion majors. At least one student receives an award of $1,000 for the upcoming academic year. Additional scholarships of equal or lesser amounts may be awarded depending upon the available funds. Applications will be reviewed on the basis of financial need, academic merit, and potential for health promotion service and leadership.

Johanna Lane Bushey Scholarship
The Johanna Lane Bushey Scholarship is an endowed scholarship set up by Dr. Glenn Bushey (president of UNC Asheville’s predecessor institution, Asheville-Biltmore College, from 1947 to 1962) in memory of his wife, Johanna Lane Bushey. Originally a scholarship for students from the Management & Accountancy Department who were interested in healthcare administration, it was changed in 2013 to be for Health and Wellness Promotion majors as more HWP majors were entering healthcare related fields than MGMT/ACCT majors.

Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice Scholarship
This scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Keith Ray who developed the Health and Wellness Promotion degree program at UNC Asheville and served as Founding Director of the North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness at UNC Asheville.
All students applying for the Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice Scholarship will be asked to submit a double-spaced 1-2 page essay or a 2-3 minute video in support of their application.

*Note: Students are welcome to work on and submit an application at any time during the year. Applications are reviewed annually in February each year and scholarship recipients receive the awards in the upcoming Fall semester.
Chartwell’s Awards
Chartwell’s Awards are given to support student undergraduate research, professional development, service learning and leadership activities as determined through consensus of the Health & Wellness Promotion faculty.
Latin Honors
University-wide Latin Honors are figured on all UNC Asheville grades, and require a minimum of 60 semester hours earned at UNC Asheville. Latin Honor GPA cut-offs are 3.600, 3.750, and 3.900 for Cum laude, Magna cum laude, and Summa cum laude, respectively. For additional details please visit the Academic Standing & Honors page.
Departmental Distinctions
Upon recommendation by the major department, Departmental Distinction is granted for outstanding performance in the major program. For this award, each department applies standards approved by the Honors Committee. Students who have maintained an overall grade-point average of at least 3.5 and a 3.7 grade-point average in the Major are eligible for Departmental Distinction.

Students are nominated by the Health & Wellness Promotion faculty for Academic Awards. Examples of commonly given Departmental Academic Awards include: First in Scholarship, Excellence in Health Education, Leadership in Health Promotion, Excellence in Service, Excellence in Health Research, Leadership in Healthy Aging, Leadership in Food Education, Leadership in Policy Advocacy, Leadership in Fitness Promotion, Leadership in Mental Health Promotion, Leadership in Wellness Entrepreneurship.
